3 Questions to Ask Your Coin Dealer

In the coin world, all dealers aren’t the same. Some are absolutely fantastic, while others leave a little something to be desired. So, how do you know if you’re working with a quality coin dealer?

Ask him these 3 questions:

1. “Do you offer more than just gold?”

So many coin dealers are obsessed with gold – to the point that it’s all they offer! Sure, the price of gold is constantly going up, and experts say it’s going to stay that way for quite some time. However, that doesn’t mean that you should only have gold coins in your collection.
In addition to gold, a good dealer will also have a large selection of silver bullion. After all, the price of silver keeps going up, too. While it’s not as expensive as gold, silver bullion can actually have more value to it. That’s because silver bullion is used for a number of industrial purposes, and gold isn’t.

2. “What kind of silver dollars do you have to offer?”

If you’re looking for coins – instead of just silver bullion bars – a good coin dealer will have a variety of silver coins to choose from. Silver dollars can have a tremendous coin value, simply because of their historic value. Many silver dollars were either produced in limited quantities or for a specific purpose (like Morgan Dollars, which were minted in an attempt to boost the U.S. silver market). That, combined with their aesthetics, make them a popular choice among coin collectors.

A good coin dealer will have silver dollars from every decade. You’ll be able to take your pick from rare treats – like Morgan Dollars – to classically beautiful coins – like the Susan B. Anthony silver dollar. No matter what kind you buy, your silver dollars will come with a great story, and that alone can make their coin value skyrocket!

Bottom line – if your coin dealer doesn’t have a ton of silver dollars to choose from, it’s time to find another one!

3. “How do I get in touch with you later?”

A good coin dealer is like a trusted business partner. After all, you’re counting on them to help you create and maintain a solid investment portfolio! You may need to speak to your coin dealer later, either to ask questions, or to clear up an issue. If your coin dealer is impossible to get in touch with, it can affect the value of your collection. You’ll need to trust that your dealer is honest and in this business for the long haul. The last thing you want is some “fly-by-night” coin dealer! If you have any doubts, you need to find another one.
